Martha's Musings

For several years now, I have occasionally ordered items from an online art company. I became interested initially when they advertised several cute paintings of cocker spaniels, as we have owned several over the years. So, I was casually looking through their site the other day when I came upon a lovely copy of the Lord’s Prayer, written in gold ink in a calligraphy style, and framed. Now each piece of art has a notice underneath it which gives the title of the piece, the painter or photographer or author, followed by information regarding the specific type of art. If it is a photograph, it lists who took the picture, where the picture was taken, etc. In other words, it gives you the specifics regarding what you are seeing. Now the person who scripted The Lord’s Prayer had entered at the bottom of the canvas the Biblical reference from the book of Matthew. The Art.com folks apparently do not grasp a Biblical reference, because they listed the author of The Lord’s Prayer as UNKNOWN! The fact that the piece was entitled “The Lord’s Prayer” did not clue them in at all. The person who took the time to so beautifully script it out was also unnamed. The note just said it was a giclee print, which means it is printed on archival paper by trained professionals. But do not worry, as I shall be educating them on their error shortly after I finish this article and cool down. The most important prayer ever written does indeed have an author – it is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We, of course, know that. I guess this idea of spreading the word of God definitely has merit. Clearly there are those who are in need.
