August 11 Martha's Musings

I have a very good friend who recently shared that she has found a fun new app. It is called Merlin Bird ID and it allows the user to record the chirping of birds, and then it identifies the specific birds. Isn’t that cool? We are blessed with many birds in our yards, maybe because we have three bird feeders, and watching and listening to these lovely creatures brings us joy. I have tried to learn the types I see by purchasing a pamphlet on “Central Texas Birds”, and, while helpful with visual identification, it is of no help with the sounds they make. This reminded me, once again, that my God knows exactly who I am. He does not require a peek at my driver’s license, no social security number or photo ID is needed at all. He knows all that stuff: where I live, my birthday, whether I am an organ donor, my hair and eye color – you know, the stuff we humans need to tell each other apart. That is because my God has known me my entire life. That is pretty special, as no human on earth has known me that long. My folks knew me until they died, as did my brothers. Hubby has known me for 40+ years, and my sons since they were born, but only my God has known me since I was in utero. I do not recall being in utero, but I know that I was, and I also know that God knew me then. He knew the pig-tailed girl who went to Catholic school; the teenager who was a Drill Team leader in high school; the college grad who was able to achieve her dream of becoming a nurse. He was there when my babies were born, and He choreographed the events leading to meeting Hubby. When I reach the pearly gates, God will know my name. So, let’s think about that: God knows (Insert your name). Isn’t that a nice feeling?
