November 24 Martha's Musings

With Thanksgiving upon us, several things have come to my attention. Things I have always known, but never gave thanks for. So here is my list of the lovely minutiae of life that God has graced me with:

  1. Fruits, of many varieties, taste very good. They did not have to. Fruits never had to be tasty. God could have made them useful only, without flavor. I noticed this gift when I added a few pieces of chopped- up pear to Diego’s dinner to mask the taste of his medication. To be clear, and honest, Diego absolutely loved the taste. (Cocker spaniels are quite astute.)
  2. The Georgetown city workers who pick up the trash in our neighborhood are just very kind people. Our trash day is on Tuesday, and as I was hot footing it out to the curb to drop in one more bag, the city workers were just pulling up. They politely waited for me to toss in this last bag, then as I was walking back up to our front porch, one of them was moving both of our trash cans up from the curb to the front of the driveway. People behave kindly because they are kind. PTL!
  3. I have been blessed with very nice friends, many of whom are members of my very nice church. I was not raised in this church, nor was I raised in this faith. But St. John’s is where I attend, and every week it is made clear to me that this is where I am supposed to be. I do not believe that God plucked me out of my former church and just dropped me here haphazardly. But I firmly believe that He opened my eyes and my heart to allow me to make the huge leap of changing denominations. And I have never regretted my choice.

Thank You, Dear Lord, for every lovely thing You do for humanity. The tastes we love, the kindnesses that surprise us, the decisions that turn out to be right – Thank You so much for all of it. Amen.

Blessings,
Martha Arizpe, St. John’s Prayer Team
