January 12 Martha's Musings

The Arizpe New Year started off with a bang. After a marvelous Christmas trip to California, where we spent Christmas with our son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, we returned to Texas. Shortly thereafter – I mean slightly over 24 hours later – Hubby was hospitalized with COVID, and I got the bug 36 hours later. We have both recovered after quite a bit of rest. After being away from home for a week, then being sick, housework was way off schedule. The only housekeeper in our household, me, just did not have enough energy to put up the Christmas décor, do the mountains of laundry that were staring at me, restock the fridge, etc. But my body was telling me, very clearly, that the rest I needed was far more important than any of those other responsibilities. It helped quite a bit that the verse from Genesis, a part of the story of The Creation, clearly stated that when God was finished with the orderly creation of the world, “…on the seventh day He rested.” Our God, Who could have created the world by a blink of His eye or by snapping His fingers, chose to do it in a very orderly manner, and then He chose to set a day aside for resting. Could He have been tired? Possibly, as all that creating must be exhausting. At least it would be for a man, but we are talking about God here. My thought on this topic is that God was, once again, showing mankind how to live. Rest is very necessary for overall health and peace of mind, and by setting this example, God gave mankind permission to take a day off. And if you are beset with the ghastly COVID listen to your body – and heed God’s advice to rest. After all, He did give you permission.

Blessings,
