I was trying to work on a little project recently, when a tiny gnat began to circle around me. Now all gnats, in my humble opinion, are a bother and a waste of protoplasm. Their purpose in life eludes me. So, I did the adult thing and googled the little “gnat”. Alas, google has no idea what the purpose of a gnat is although it did give several ways to get rid of them. However, I did note one characteristic of the lowly gnat: it is very persistent. Now persistence is a trait that I admire and try to cultivate. Admittedly, a persistent gnat is a reason for the term “pest”. But one thing for sure is that they just cannot be ignored. I did learn that they have a short lifespan, roughly 4-5 weeks. That’s not a lot of time to complete your life’s purpose, whatever it may be. Now, I doubt if the lowly gnat is aware of this fact, but it did remind me that everyone has an expiration date.
Whatever we want to do with our lives, we would be wise to get on with it, while we have both the health and ability to do so. Keeping our spiritual health on top of our list of things to accomplish would be very, very wise. And persistence is key to success. So don’t swat that persistent gnat – rather, follow their lead.
Blessings,
